Is There Still Needs for Desktop Application in Today 's World

Posted by Enenim Asukwo Bassey.

In our world today, every activity is happening online such that people no longer find desktop application useful. But this is not the case as each has its strength and weakness. In an online applications, most of the heavy processing is handled by the service provider, which minimizes the requirements on your system configuration. Desktop applications require high memory and processing speed for complex applications like graphic design. The advantage of the desktop application is its independence from internet connectivity and bandwidth considerations. Online applications rely upon the internet infrastructure for data transport and content rendering. Desktop applications offer higher security than online application as it is free from malicious activities of the so-called bad guys and possible virus attacks. Online application can be very frustrating especially when internet connections are slow or unavailable but this is not the case with desktop application. It is very easy to maintain online application, for example through the use of CMS unlike desktop. In summary, desktop application is still relevant in our world toady. A wise decision would be for a company to acquire both if affordable.

Why use an online business directory?

Contributor: Adesina Adeola of Covenant University, Ogun State, Nigeria

As the owner of a business, you want to get your business maximum exposure and on a limited budget. The world of business is changing and tilting more and more towards online commerce and advertising, so now is the perfect time to begin gaining an online presence.

Unlike a local business listing, Online business directories will allow your listing to be seen anywhere in the world. This is important, especially if you want to build an international brand. Large global corporations spend hundreds of millions, if not billions on advertising, but you can begin with a free listing and be well on your way to having an online, global presence.

Having a website is a great way to help people find your business but it is often difficult to be recognized by Google and to be placed high in the organic search rankings. Being listed in a directory can help immensely. By being listed, Google will see a link from the directory to your website, this is called a backlink, and it will make your website appear more credible to Google. The more backlinks you have, the more likely Google will list you higher in their search rankings, which can make your website much easier to find and give it significantly more traffic, which in turn attracts more customers to your company.

Also, by being listed in an online directory, people who are looking for your product or service can find your website or contact information through the online directories. Directory listings often come up high in search engine rankings so your listing may appear right near the top, ultimately bringing those people to your website.

So now you can take the first step towards maximizing your web presence and you can do this by submitting your business website to any directory service of your choice so that it can be promoted and advertised globally over the internet.

Why Should Schools Have Their online Applications and their students IT equipped

Composed by Enenim Asukwo Bassey (Unilag)
It has been challenging for schools to manage/store information about their students and staff using the manual files system, especially keeping and maintaining  records of their ex-students and staff, which keeps accumulating year after year. Also, these invaluable records are at risks of  fire outbreak and other unforseen future disasters. These problems and many more can be avoided if records are kept online.

Also graduated students can go online and print out their testimonials, certificates, results and other credentials. All they need to do is to provide authentication as required by the school administration. Furthermore, knowledge of IT has become so indispensable that students and staff are to be provided with the adequate skills regardless of their interests/discipline.

Now that you know how useful it is to have your school online application and the need to equipped your students and staff with IT knowledge, the question that arises is where and how to acquire them - the answer, HISPLUS' School Nigeria.

IMPROVING YOUR BUSINESS PERFORMANCE THROUGH ERP IMPLEMENTATION
Most business people today have a vague idea of what ERP means, those who do, believe ERP is sophisticated and expensive management software which big companies adopt to manage their business processes; but in hard fact, ERP is any software, used to simplify business processes within an Enterprise(enhances communication, improves information sharing, ensures good management).
“Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software system integrates key business and management processes within and beyond a firm’s boundary.” Companies such as BAT and Guinness Nigeria, are companies who used ERP to manage their business; this companies are known to perform exceptionally well in Nigeria’s though economic weather.
Enterprise Resource Planning software systems (ERP) encompass a wide range of software products supporting day-to-day business operations and decision-making. ERP serves this industries and numerous functional areas in an integrated fashion, attempting to automate operations from supply chain management, inventory control, manufacturing scheduling and production, sales support, customer relationship management, financial and cost accounting, human resources and almost any other data oriented management process. ERP systems have become increasingly prevalent over the last 10 years.
Before now, most companies avoid computer based management tools for various reason; some avoid it because they see them as difficult tools to use while other avoid it because they see it as too expensive to manage; and a large number see no reason to it. But since the advent of the new Millennium and the development of GSM in the country, companies and small business alike have started warming up to IT business management.
Imagine a less congested work space, imagine a more improved and seamless workflow, imagine being able to monitor all your business processes and customer inquiry from anywhere in the world. Imagine being able to track your work flow, monitor employee performance, monitor tasks, manage asset, employee and customer information all in one place. Imagine being able to spend more time producing, and servicing your customers
This business challenges are the same in both SME’s and Large Organisations, but it has been discovered that large companies, with much data, more employees, and greater business investment see reason to implement ERP systems; but it is my belief that ERP is a much more useful tool to SME’s than Large Organisations.
Let’s take for example, John Nigeria limited, a business consulting firm; based in Lagos, and as we know, there are so many consulting firms in Lagos, as such, competition is high. John Nigeria limited has about 50 business client, and a staff of about 3 people (a Customer Relations officer, Accountant and Marketing Manager), Mr John who is the chief consultant as well as the HR Manager is in charge of major administrative functions as well ensuring his business succeeds.
Before 2009, Mr John’s business has not been largely profitable (majorly because he was not able to keep up to customer demands as well as ensure optimum business performance). He has thought of various means to improve his business such as increase his staff to cope with customer demands, but that will also increase expenses, and the company could hardly cope with the payment of the present staff. A friend advised him to implement pay as you go ERP web based software. And at a cost of 1000 naira per user per month, Mr John’s business has been booming; now he is more confident, can afford to increase the salary of his staff, and his business has more satisfied client than ever before.
What ERP did was to simplify his business process; it did that by:
  1. Creating a database that put all his customer information and inquiries in one place accessible to him anywhere he his.
  2. Creating a data base that monitors his business processes allowing him to eliminate unnecessary procedures and improve his overall business performance.
  3. Financial Management tools, giving him a detailed analysis of his incomes and expenditures.
  4. Asset Management tools, helping him monitor mileage on his official car, and creating saving plans for his office rental payment.
  5. Customer Relationship Management tools, that enable him communicate with his clients easily, via SMS and Emails.
All this and so many others were all done by subscribing for an ERP portal, today John’s consulting firm is performing better than ever; so why not try an ERP implementation today.
